Visual Description
Actia nigroscutellata is a small fly characteristic of the family Tachinidae. Observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a dark, robust body with prominent bristles (macrochaetae) typical of the family. The thorax and abdomen exhibit dark coloration, with the abdomen showing distinct pale transverse bands or markings on the tergites. The wings are hyaline and clear, with venation typical of the genus Actia. The head features large, compound eyes and prominent antennae.[1]
Biology and Ecology
Actia nigroscutellata was described by Lundbeck in 1927.[2] Like many members of the family Tachinidae, it functions as a parasitoid. It has been recorded as a parasitoid of the lepidopteran host Tortrix viridana (family Tortricidae) in Bulgaria.[3]
