Visual Description
Actenoptera hilarella is a small fly belonging to the family Piophilidae. Observations of museum specimens and field images reveal a slender, elongated body typical of many piophilids. The thorax and abdomen exhibit a dark, often brownish or blackish coloration. The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, with venation characteristic of the family. The head is relatively large with prominent compound eyes.[1]
General Information
Actenoptera hilarella was originally described by J.W. Zetterstedt in 1847 as Heteromyza hilarella.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Actenoptera.[2]
