Visual Description
Acrosticta apicalis, commonly known as a picture-winged fly, exhibits characteristic wing patterns typical of the family Ulidiidae.[2] Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal distinct dark, irregular markings or bands across the wings, which are a diagnostic feature of this species.[1] The body is generally dark-colored, and the overall morphology is consistent with other members of the genus Acrosticta.[1]
Distribution
Acrosticta apicalis has been documented in Brazil. A historical specimen collected in 1933 in the municipality of São Paulo provided the first record of this species for the state of São Paulo, extending its known distribution following reports in Minas Gerais.[3]
