Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Acrochaeta dimidiata exhibits the characteristic body form of the genus Acrochaeta.[1] The specimens display an elongated body structure typical of the subfamily Sarginae.[2] Visible traits include a distinct scutum color pattern and elongated antennae, which have historically been used for identification, though these features can sometimes lead to confusion with the related genus Merosargus.[2]
Acrochaeta dimidiata was described by Lindner in 1949.[3] The genus Acrochaeta has undergone taxonomic revision to better define its phylogenetic position within the Stratiomyidae.[2] Recent studies have emphasized the importance of male and female genitalia for accurate generic delimitation, as previous descriptions often lacked the necessary morphological detail.[2] The genus is now considered monophyletic, supported by specific characters of the head, thorax, and abdomen.[2]
