Visual Description
Acridophagus parvissimus is a small fly belonging to the family Mythicomyiidae. Observations of museum specimens indicate a compact, robust body form typical of many members of this family. The specimens exhibit a generally dark coloration, with visible structural features including a rounded thorax and a relatively short, tapering abdomen. The wings are clear and appear to be held in a resting position that obscures some of the dorsal abdominal detail. Due to the nature of the preserved specimens, finer morphological characters such as specific setal patterns or precise wing venation are difficult to resolve in the available imagery.[1]
History and Classification
Acridophagus parvissimus was originally described by F.H.S. Roberts in 1929 as Cyrtosia parvissimus.[2] The species is currently accepted under the genus Acridophagus.[2]
