Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Acraspisoides are slender, stiletto-like flies.[1] They exhibit a distinct body form characterized by a relatively small, rounded head and a long, tapering abdomen.[1] The coloration observed in these specimens varies, with some individuals displaying a dark, predominantly black or brownish-black body, while others show more vibrant, reddish-brown tones on the thorax and abdomen.[1]
General Information
Acraspisoides is a genus of stiletto flies within the subfamily Agapophytinae.[2] The subfamily Agapophytinae is restricted in its distribution to Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the eastern provinces of Indonesia.[2] The genus was described by Hill and Winterton in 2004.[3][4]
