Acompha costalis is a dipteran species characterized by a piceous blackish body and brownish-black legs. The head features yellowish antennae and palpi, with a glabrous medial front and white tomentum restricted to the upper parafrontal and ocellar areas. The wing is hyaline, distinguished by a narrow dark brown costal border that extends to the end of the third vein. The abdomen is strongly petiolate at the basal syntergum, with subsequent terga covered in longish white hairs arising from raised sockets, which are arranged in transverse rows on the apical segments.[2]
Acompha costalis (Wiedemann, 1830) is a member of the family Richardiidae.[3] It was originally described as Sepsis costalis and was later placed in the genus Sepsisia, which is now considered a junior synonym of Acompha.[2]
The species can be distinguished from its congener A. punctifrons by its hyaline wings, which lack the transverse brown bands found in A. punctifrons, as well as differences in frontal tomentum and chaetotaxy.[2]
