Visual Description
Acnemia nitidicollis is a small fly characteristic of the family Mycetophilidae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits a slender, elongated body typical of fungus gnats. The thorax is generally robust and often shows a shiny or polished appearance, which is reflected in the specific epithet nitidicollis (meaning "shining neck" or "shining thorax"). The wings are clear or lightly tinted, with distinct venation patterns characteristic of the genus Acnemia. The legs are long and slender, adapted for movement among fungal substrates.[1]
Distribution and Ecology
Acnemia nitidicollis is known to occur throughout Europe and in Japan.[2] In Poland, it has been recorded in the vicinity of Słupsk and the Sądecczyzna region.[2]
In the Bieszczady Mountains, the species is considered frequent across various forest environments, though it is not typically found in high numbers. It is notably absent from beech forests on the slopes of Bukowe Berdo but is most numerous in beech forests located at the boundary with mountain meadows (połoniny). Adults have been observed from May through mid-September.[2]
