Visual Description
Aciurina michaeli is a species of tephritid fruit fly. Observations of the species in its natural environment, as documented in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, show the fly associated with gall structures on its host plant, Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus (sticky-leaved rabbitbrush).[1] The galls appear as distinct, somewhat spherical or bulbous swellings on the stems of the host plant. These galls often exhibit a reddish or purplish hue and may have small, protruding, leaf-like or bud-like structures on their surface.[1]
Biology
Aciurina michaeli was described by R.D. Goeden and J.A. Teerink in 1996.[2] The species is known to develop on Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus in southern California, where it induces the formation of galls.[2]
