Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Aciura (such as Aciura coryli) exhibit distinct morphological traits characteristic of the family Tephritidae.[1] The wings typically feature complex, dark, reticulated or banded patterns, which are diagnostic for many tephritid fruit flies. The body is generally robust, with a coloration that often includes dark brown or blackish tones, sometimes contrasted with lighter, yellowish or whitish markings on the thorax and abdomen. The head is relatively large with prominent, compound eyes.[1]
General Information
Aciura is a genus of fruit flies belonging to the family Tephritidae.[2] The genus was described by the French entomologist André Jean Baptiste Robineau-Desvoidy in 1830.[3][2]
