Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Acinia are small flies typical of the family Tephritidae.[1] They exhibit characteristic wing patterns, often featuring intricate, dark, reticulated or banded markings against a lighter, sometimes yellowish or hyaline background. The body is generally robust, with a coloration that can range from brownish to yellowish, often with distinct setation on the thorax and abdomen.[1]
Distribution and Records
The genus Acinia was described by Jean-Baptiste Robineau-Desvoidy in 1830.[2] Species within this genus have been documented in various regions. For instance, Acinia picturata (Snow) was recorded for the first time in Puerto Rico, based on specimens collected in 1969.[3]
