This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations of museum specimens, Acidogona melanura exhibits a characteristic wing pattern that is not sexually dimorphic.[2] The scutellum is entirely microtrichose.[2] In females, the wing features relatively large hyaline spots, with the spot at the apex of vein R${2+3}$ typically extending to the posterior half of cell r${2+3}$.[2] Additionally, cell r$_{4+5}$ contains at most three hyaline spots distal to crossvein dm-cu.[2] These morphological traits are consistent with specimens documented in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset.[1]
Acidogona melanura is a species of tephritid fruit fly.[3] It is known to breed in the flowers of Hieracium species (Asteraceae: Cichorieae).[2] The species was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1873 as Trypeta melanura.[3]
The distribution of A. melanura includes records from Alabama, Georgia, New York, and Quebec.[2] A specimen from Chihuahua, Mexico, has been noted as similar to A. melanura, though its specific identity remains uncertain.[2]
