Visual Description
Members of the genus Acidiella are characterized by a predominantly yellow-brown body coloration. Observations of Acidiella caudata reveal a distinct dark, rounded posterior abdominal segment, contrasting with the lighter thorax and anterior abdomen. The wings exhibit a prominent, complex dark brown pattern with lighter, translucent spots or bands.[1]
Biology and Distribution
Species within the genus Acidiella are members of the family Tephritidae. For example, Acidiella pachypogon is distinguished from other regional tephritids by its yellow-brown body, two pairs of black orbital setae, three pairs of black frontal setae, and three or more strong dark brown genal setae.[2]
Acidiella pachypogon has been recorded in North Korea and Japan.[2] Interactions have been documented between Acidiella and the parasitoid wasp Opius mariae.[3]
