Visual Description
Acidia cognata is a small fly characterized by distinct wing patterns typical of many tephritids. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a body with a yellowish-brown to brownish coloration. The wings exhibit a complex, dark, reticulated or banded pattern, which is a diagnostic feature for identification.[2]
Distribution and Ecology
The species is known to occur across Europe, including Central, Eastern, Northern, and Southern regions (Italy, Ukraine, and the former Yugoslavia).[3] It has also been recorded in Turkey, specifically in the Çorum and Sinop provinces.[3]
The larvae of A. cognata are known to be leaf miners.[4] Known host plants include Adenostyles glabra, Homogyne alpina, Petasites albus, Petasites hybridus, and Tussilago farfara.[3]
