Visual Description
The genus Acidia includes species such as Acidia cognata, which are characterized by distinct wing patterns typical of many tephritid fruit flies. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show these flies possess patterned wings with dark, often brownish or yellowish markings, and a body structure consistent with the family Tephritidae.[1]
Biology and Distribution
The genus Acidia was described by Robineau-Desvoidy in 1830.[2] The species Acidia cognata (Wiedemann, 1817) is a known member of this genus, which has been recorded in various regions including Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe, Italy, Ukraine, and Yugoslavia.[3] It was also recently recorded in Turkey, specifically in the Çorum and Sinop provinces.[3]
Acidia cognata is associated with several host plants, including Adenostyles glabra, Homogyne alpina, Petasites albus, Petasites hybridus, and Tussilago farfara.[3]
