Visual Description
Achradocera species are small flies belonging to the family Dolichopodidae.[2] Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal characteristic features of these flies, including a slender body form and relatively long, thin legs typical of the family.[1] The wings are often clear or lightly tinted, and the thorax and abdomen exhibit metallic or dark coloration.[1]
Taxonomy and Systematics
The genus Achradocera was established by Theodor Becker in 1922.[3] Recent taxonomic work has clarified the status of certain species; for instance, Achradocera apicalis (Aldrich) was removed from synonymy with Achradocera barbata (Loew), and a lectotype was designated for A. apicalis.[4]
