Achalcus vaillanti is a small fly, consistent with the general morphology of the genus Achalcus. Based on museum specimen images, the body exhibits a non-metallic appearance, with a thorax that is typically reddish yellow to yellowish brown. The wings are clear and membranous, extending beyond the abdomen. The legs are slender, and the antennae feature a characteristic triangular, acute first flagellomere.[1]
Achalcus vaillanti was described by Brunhes in 1987.[2] The genus Achalcus is characterized by small to medium-sized flies with a laterally compressed thorax. Diagnostic features for the genus include a first flagellomere that is longer than the scape and pedicel combined, and a first tarsomere of leg III that is 0.7–0.9× the length of the second tarsomere.[3]
