Achalcus nigropunctatus is a small fly characteristic of the family Dolichopodidae. Based on examination of museum specimens, the species exhibits a slender body form typical of the genus. Key diagnostic features include the specific coloration and structural patterns on the head and thorax, which are often used to distinguish it from congeners.[1]
Achalcus nigropunctatus was originally known from Western Europe, including records from France, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland.[2] In 2014, the species was documented in the Tigirekskii Nature Reserve in the Altai Territory of Russia, marking its first recorded occurrence in the eastern Palaearctic region.[2]
Ecological interactions indicate that A. nigropunctatus serves as a prey item for various bird species, including the willow tit (Poecile montanus), the Eurasian treecreeper (Certhia familiaris), and the common grasshopper warbler (Locustella naevia).[3]
