Visual Description
Achalcus flavicollis is a small to medium-sized fly within the family Dolichopodidae. Like other members of the genus Achalcus, it is characterized by a largely pale thorax and a triangular, acute first flagellomere on the antenna.[2]
Biology and Ecology
The genus Achalcus is distinguished from the related genus Australachalcus by having five dorsocentral bristles, whereas Australachalcus has six. Additionally, Achalcus species lack dorsal pubescence on the scape.[2]
Achalcus flavicollis belongs to the A. flavicollis species group. This group is defined by specific male secondary sexual characteristics, including the presence of a strong basoventral bristle on the fore femur and an aedeagus that exhibits a slight subapical bend.[2]
