Description
Achalcus dytei is a species of long-legged fly in the family Dolichopodidae, first described by Pollet and Cumming in 1998 [2]. It belongs to the Achalcus flavicollis species group, a group of medium-sized, elegant flies characterized by a largely pale thorax and a triangular, acute first flagellomere [3].
Diagnostic morphological features include:
- Thorax: The thorax is reddish-yellow, with the pleura showing slight infuscation [3].
- Antenna: The antenna is primarily yellow. The first flagellomere is acute at the apex and is dark on less than its dorsal half [3].
- Abdomen: In males, the tergites are black and the sternites are mainly dark brown. In females, the tergites are dark brown, while the sternites are whitish to pale brown, with the 5th and 6th sternites appearing darker [3].
- Legs: Tibia I is characterized by the presence of two dorsal bristles [3].
