Visual Description
Acericecis ocellaris, commonly known as the ocellate gall midge, is a gall-inducing insect.[2] The species is recognized for the distinctive galls it induces on the leaves of its host plants, which are species of maple (Acer).[3] These galls are often characterized by a circular, spot-like appearance, which can lead to confusion with fungal leaf spot pathogens when observed on herbarium specimens.[3] Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset confirm the presence of these characteristic gall structures on maple foliage.[1]
