Based on examination of preserved museum specimens, Acarterus darwini exhibits the characteristic morphology of the genus Acarterus within the family Hybotidae.[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated body typical of many empidoid flies. Key visible features include a distinct, rounded head with prominent compound eyes and a thorax that is robust in proportion to the abdomen. The wings are well-developed and membranous, extending beyond the tip of the abdomen. The legs are relatively long and slender, adapted for the predatory habits associated with the family.[1]
