Acarterus is a genus of flies in the family Hybotidae. It was described by the entomologist Hermann Loew in 1858.[1]

Based on observations of museum specimens, members of the genus Acarterus exhibit typical dipteran morphology.[2] They possess a distinct head with prominent compound eyes and a slender, elongated body structure characteristic of many hybotids.[2] The wings are generally clear and well-developed, extending beyond the abdomen.[2]
