The evidence was supported using multiple complementary methods (e.g., chitin-specific staining and spectroscopy, microscopy, and a chitinase digestion assay), and the work emphasizes that chitin occurrence in demosponges is not limited to Verongiida, including Poecilosclerida representatives such as A. wolffgangi.[2]
