Visual Description
Museum specimen images attributed to Acarnus topsenti (genus Acarnus, family Acarnidae) show a preserved sponge specimen consistent with a fistular/branching morphology typical of poecilosclerid sponges in this group. The specimens appear as small, discrete units with dark external coloration (as preserved), with external surfaces not clearly patterned at the image resolution.
Species status and nomenclature
Acarnus topsenti is treated as an accepted species name (authorship: Dendy, 1922).[2]
