Museum specimens of Acarnus hoshinoi (Naturalis Biodiversity Center; GBIF occurrence basis) are shown as preserved sponge material with an overall encrusting to massive habit, with a rough, irregular external surface typical of many Poecilosclerida (as observed in the GBIF-linked specimen images).[2]
