Acanthotetilla celebensis is a marine sponge. Based on visual examination of available specimens, the sponge exhibits a globular or sub-spherical overall form. The surface texture appears somewhat rough or hispid, characterized by the presence of projecting spicules that provide a bristly appearance.[1]
Acanthotetilla celebensis was described by de Voogd and van Soest in 2007, with the type locality in North Sulawesi, Indonesia.[2] The genus Acanthotetilla is part of the family Tetillidae, a group of sponges within the order Tetractinellida.[2] Phylogenetic studies on the family Tetillidae have utilized molecular markers such as COI and 18S to clarify relationships within the group, highlighting complexities in species identification where morphological and genetic data may not always align.[3]
