Description
Acanthophorides is a genus of flies within the family Phoridae, first described by the entomologist Thomas Borgmeier in 1924.[2]
Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Acanthophorides exhibit the characteristic body plan of phorid flies, often referred to as humpbacked flies.[1] The specimens display a distinctively arched thorax, which gives them a hunched appearance. The wings are typically clear with reduced venation, a common trait in this family. The body is generally small and dark-colored, with visible bristles (setae) on the thorax and legs.[1]
