Visual Description
Acanthonevra pteropleuralis is a species of fruit fly within the family Tephritidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit characteristic tephritid morphology, including patterned wings with dark, reticulated or banded markings typical of the genus Acanthonevra.[1] The body coloration is generally brownish, and the flies possess prominent compound eyes and specialized wing venation patterns that are diagnostic for the group.[1]
Classification and History
Acanthonevra pteropleuralis was described by the entomologist Friedrich Hendel in 1927.[2] It is currently classified within the tribe Acanthonevrini, subfamily Phytalmiinae.[3]
