Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens, Acantholeria armipes exhibits the characteristic body plan of a dipteran. The specimens show a distinct, segmented thorax and abdomen, with visible wing structures and jointed legs. The overall coloration is generally muted, consistent with many members of the family Heleomyzidae.[1]
History and Classification
Acantholeria armipes was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1862 under the name Blepharoptera armipes.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Acantholeria.[2]
