General Information
Acantholeria is a genus of flies within the family Heleomyzidae, first described by Garrett in 1921.[2] The genus is recognized as an accepted name in taxonomic databases.[3]
Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Acantholeria exhibit typical dipteran morphology.[1] The specimens display a slender body form characteristic of many heleomyzid flies, with distinct, well-developed wings and segmented legs. The thorax and abdomen show a brownish coloration, and the compound eyes are prominent.[1]
