General Biology / Ecology (high-level)
As sponges (phylum Porifera), members of Acanthodendrilla are sessile filter feeders, drawing water through their body to capture suspended particles. Within Demospongiae, Acanthodendrilla is placed in the keratose lineage (Dendroceratida), a group whose skeleton is dominated by keratinous (spongin-based) support rather than siliceous spicules.
