Acanthocotyle pacifica is a species of parasitic flatworm belonging to the phylum Platyhelminthes and the class Monogenea. It is classified within the order Gyrodactylidea and the family Acanthocotylidae.[1]
Visual Description
Stained specimens of A. pacifica reveal a complex internal organization characteristic of monogenean flatworms, including distinct glandular tissues and reproductive organs. The anterior region features lateral lobes and a central muscular pharynx. The posterior end is equipped with a circular attachment organ, or haptor, which is densely populated with numerous radially arranged, sclerotized hook-like structures.
