Visual Description
Acanthiophilus walkeri is a species of fruit fly within the family Tephritidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult fly exhibits a patterned wing structure characteristic of many tephritids, with dark, reticulated or mottled markings against a lighter, often translucent background.[1] The body typically displays a brownish or yellowish coloration, often with fine setae (bristles) covering the thorax and abdomen.[1]
History and Classification
Acanthiophilus walkeri was originally described by the entomologist T.V. Wollaston in 1858, under the name Tetanocera walkeri.[2] It is currently an accepted species within the genus Acanthiophilus.[2]
