Isoagelaxanthin A (carotenoid)
A chemical study reported isolation and structural characterization of a carotenoid, isoagelaxanthin A, from the sea sponge Acanthella vulgata (family Dictyonellidae). The compound was described as 3-hydroxy-β,ε-carotene and presented as an isomer of agelaxanthin A.[2]
Sampling in that study used specimens collected from the littoral zone of Makurazaki, Kagoshima (Japan), and the carotenoid was purified after extraction and column chromatography, with structure supported by UV-visible absorption, mass spectrometry, IR, and NMR data.[2]
