Museum specimens of Acanthella pulcherrima (Dictyonellidae) appear as preserved, irregularly shaped sponge masses with a relatively smooth to finely textured surface. In available records, the specimens are commonly light-colored (cream to pale yellow-brown in preservation) and form lobed or encrusting/low-growth morphologies rather than erect, branching forms.
Acanthella pulcherrima Ridley & Dendy, 1886 is treated as an accepted species by GBIF, with the taxon placed in the genus Acanthella (family Dictyonellidae).[2]
