Digital image records (EOL/WoRMS imagery) show Acanthella danerii as a small encrusting/hemispherical sponge with a dark to light brown overall coloration in the photographed field view. The specimen appears to form a low profile over the substrate rather than a tall branched morphology.
Acanthella danerii was described as a new species in 2020 from Chilean fjords in the South Pacific Ocean. The type locality is “Seno Magdalena” (44°61’48.63” S, 72°95’83.12” W). Specimens were collected by SCUBA diving at 20 m depth on hard substrate associated with a vertical wall that meets a rocky bottom sloping to about 32 m within the surveyed area. The original description places the genus Acanthella within the family Dictyonellidae.
