Visual Description
Based on available images indexed under this genus, Acanthancora species are depicted as marine demosponges with a visibly firm, often upright or lobed growth form. Many observations show a cobalt-blue to blue coloration (e.g., associated with Acanthancora cyanocrypta) and a textured surface consistent with sponge oscula/porosity at small scales. In other images (including preserved specimens), the external morphology appears as discrete lobes or rounded projections rather than a thin sheet, consistent with an encrusting-to-lobate habit.
