Dataset images for Abyssocladia villosa depict a cladorhizid sponge body that appears to project outward in an irregular, three-dimensional form consistent with non-lamellar (non-sheet-like) deep-sea sponge morphology.
More generally, cladorhizid sponges (family Cladorhizidae) are characterized by a reduced or absent aquiferous (filter-feeding) system; prey capture is instead achieved by enveloping small prey with thin filaments.[2]
