Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Abrophila whitei exhibits the characteristic morphology of a robber fly (family Asilidae).[1] The specimens display a robust, elongated body typical of the Asilini tribe. Key visible traits include a prominent, bristly thorax and a slender, tapering abdomen. The wings are clear and well-developed, extending beyond the tip of the abdomen. The head features large, prominent compound eyes and a distinct, forward-projecting proboscis, which is a diagnostic feature for the family.[1]
Distribution and Taxonomy
Abrophila whitei is a species of robber fly in the family Asilidae. It was described by G. Daniels in 1987 as part of a revision of the genus Neoaratus and the description of several allied new genera from the Australian Region.[2]
