Based on examination of preserved specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Abbemyia exhibit typical dolichopodid morphology.[1] The specimens display slender, elongated bodies characteristic of the subfamily Sciapodinae. Key visible features include long, thin legs and wings with distinct venation patterns typical of the family. The body coloration in the observed specimens appears metallic, a common trait among many dolichopodids.[1]
Abbemyia is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae.[2] The genus was described by Daniel J. Bickel in 1994 as part of his comprehensive review of the Australian Sciapodinae.[2]
