Visual Description
Abasanistus aureopictus is a small fly characterized by a distinctively patterned thorax and abdomen. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a thorax featuring longitudinal light-colored stripes against a darker background.[1] The abdomen exhibits prominent, bright orange or golden-yellow lateral markings that contrast sharply with the otherwise dark, predominantly black coloration of the body. The eyes are large and reddish, typical of many dipterans.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Abasanistus aureopictus was described by M.T. James in 1973.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted name within the family Stratiomyidae.[2]
