Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Abasanistus exhibit characteristic soldier fly morphology.[1] The body is typically elongated, with a distinct, somewhat flattened abdomen. The wings are often held flat over the back when at rest. The coloration observed in these specimens includes patterns of dark and lighter, sometimes yellowish or reddish, markings on the thorax and abdomen. The antennae are prominent and characteristic of the family.[1]

Abasanistus is a genus of flies in the family Stratiomyidae, first described by Kálmán Kertész in 1923.[2]
