Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Abaristophora are small flies typical of the family Phoridae.[1] They exhibit a characteristic humpbacked appearance, with the thorax arched dorsally. The wings are generally clear with reduced venation, a common trait among phorids, and the legs are often robust, particularly the hind femora.[1]
Distribution and Diversity
The genus Abaristophora is represented in the Palaearctic region by several species, including A. arctophila Schmitz, 1927, A. sachalinensis Michailovskaya, 1988, and A. kolaensis Disney, 2013.[2] Abaristophora arctophila has been confirmed in Europe, with occurrences documented in boreal Sweden.[2] Abaristophora kolaensis was described from a male specimen collected in North-West Russia.[2]
