Visual Description
Known museum specimens indicate that Aaptos pernucleata is a marine demospongian with a preserved, cushion-like to lobate sponge body (visible as a rounded mass in preserved collections).

- Aaptos pernucleata* is a species of sponge in the genus Aaptos.
It has an accepted name in GBIF as Aaptos pernucleata (Carter, 1870), with the basionym given as Trachya pernucleata Carter, 1870. [2]
Chemistry and bioactivity (study-relevant)
In a survey of marine sponges from Mochima Bay (Venezuela), the ethyl acetate–soluble fraction of Aaptos pernucleata tested positive for alkaloids, sterols (unsaturated sterols), and pentacyclic triterpenes. [3]
In the same study, A. pernucleata showed mild antifungal activity against Candida albicans and no antibacterial activity against the bacterial panel tested. [3]
The fraction also exhibited strong lethality in an Artemia salina nauplii assay, including very low LC50 estimates (reported as LC50 (24h) = 1.54 µg/mL and LC50 (48h) < 0.01 µg/mL). [3]
